Classic Auto Restoration Services of Pittsburgh, Inc. 28 DAVIDSON AVENUE IS A HAZARDOUS SITE

* In November 2004, Classic Auto Restoration Services of Pittsburgh, Inc. (CARS) abandoned their business, leaving behind dangerous chemicals used in the electroplating process.

* Some of the chemicals corroded the containers they were stored in and leaked onto the floor. Other containers were left open and exposed to the elements.

* These chemicals can harm people if they inhale, ingest, or come into direct contact with them. They are also flammable.

NO ONE, especially children, should go near this site!

* The PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) ordered CARS to clean up the site. CARS ignored the order, so DEP initiated its own cleanup at the property in October 2005, under the Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act (HSCA), to identify, contain, and remove all hazardous materials from the site.

* While DEP has taken every possible step to secure the site, there are still trespassing problems. Call 911 if there is suspicious activity at the site.

* Over 150 drums of chemicals are temporarily stored at 28 Davidson Avenue. They contain poisons like cyanide and metals (nickel, chromium, lead, etc.), plus acids and other flammable chemicals.

* A state contractor will remove the drums by the end of March 2006. DEP will then propose an investigation of the building structure, soil, surface water, and groundwater at the site to determine whether the potential site contamination will require further action. PHOTO GALLERY
